AMA Results Bring Only Surprises of Disappointment

Ama

Last nights American Music Awards were predictable to say the least. In fact, I could probably go up to nay Top 40 listener and have them predict who won, completely confident they'll guess correctly. With Justin Bieber sweeping the show, Taylor Swift winning female country, and Eminem winning rap, it makes me wonder why people even need to watch these awards. There were some highlight performances, and you can vote below for your favorite, courtesy of MTV, but all and all my experience watching the AMA's just makes me more excited for the Woodie Awards.

An Interview with Bedouin Soundclash

After just releasing their fourth studio album Light The Horizon we were able to have Eon Sinclair answer a few questions to get a better look at Bedouin Soundclash.

How would you best describe your sound?

Street Soul; reggae roots that grew into a tree that sprouted folk, rock, world, and electronic fruits.

What do you imagine your listeners doing while hearing your songs?

I imagine them listening with intent and coming away from the experience having felt something, something that leaves them wondering, something that feels like it's about them and is reflective or cathartic, or something that leaves them smiling.

Who are your musical influences?

Too many to list, but The Clash, The Wailers, Sam Cooke, Paul Simon, Sizzla, Damon Albarn, The Funk Brothers, etc, etc, etc.

What other hobbies do you have besides music?

I love football (soccer), I like to socialize with family and friends, video games (PS3),  watching sports, shopping for clothes.

What are your musical guilty pleasures?

Not so guilty about it but Hall and Oates.

When writing, what comes first, music or lyrics?

I don’t really write lyrics, so music.

Are there plans to make a music video for any of the songs you've recorded recently?

We just shot a video for a song called "Elongo" on our latest record "Light the Horizon" which should be out soon.

If you weren't in music what do you think you'd be doing?

I think I would be an elementary school teacher as that's what I went to school for.

Any plans for touring and supporting your music in the future?

We will continue to tour our record where and when it makes sense to do so, but we'll also be focused on making more and better music.

You're a master of many different art forms, what came first?

Music has always been my first  and my biggest love, but i grew up around different types of artists like painters, sculptors, and designers. I was interested and exposed to different forms of art at a very early age, so i always wanted to explore and get involved in all of it. I would spend most of my summers in different art studios watching and learning how to paint or do ceramic work etc.  I also learned how to paint on silk. Still to this day i paint paintings. I find it very relaxing and expressive.

I learned how to use a sewing machine when i was little and made sketches of dresses and shoes. I would make my own runway shows at home for my parents and their friends. I wasn't interested in playing outside with the kids, i was happy entertaining myself doing all the art work just as i do today, but it always comes back to the music.

Who are your musical influences?

I was influenced by a lot of great artist’s, who still today are the greatest! Michael Jackson, George Michael, Madonna, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Prince, and Whitney Houston. Their music was a huge part of my everyday life. I even did my homework listening to music. They still are my favorite artists and now i also listen to Faith Evans, India Arie, Pink, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Justin Timberlake, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Price, Lauryn Hill, Nikka Costa, Usher, as well as gospel music and classical.

What other hobbies do you have besides music?

I love reading. Since the day i could read, every night i went to bed with a book. I read at least an hour a day.

I love painting, doing yoga, going to museums, art exhibitions, theatre, musicals, and i absolutely love to cook, especially gourmet, vegan, raw recipes. The harder the recipe, the more i enjoy the challenge. When i have free time, I bake a lot too. I only use organic ingredients and i don't eat meat or meat products. I am also very aware of the dairy industry and animal welfare, so it's extremely rare that i would ever use dairy ingredients in my cooking. I also pay a lot of attention to "Fair Trade" products, it's very important that people who work on tea, rice or any other farms are treated and paid fairly. A lot of farms enslave adults and children, don't pay them and also abuse them, so it's very important  to be aware of that and demand only "fair trade" products. This way we can start our fight against modern day slavery and human trafficking.

I love spending time with my toy poodle Bonnie, she is amazing and that's where my love for animals comes in. I get involved in animal rescues and i love to help and find them loving forever homes. One of my dreams is to build non kill animal shelters, where animals would be well taken care of and would be placed with the right loving forever homes, instead of being put to sleep just because no one wants them. I would also love to have a program that would be placed in schools to educate and teach kids about our responsibility to take care and respect animals from a very young age.

What are your musical guilty pleasures?

I would have to say Limp Bizkit, Spice Girls and Skid Row, but don't tell anyone.

When writing, what comes first, music or lyrics?

They usually come together. I do have a notepad where i constantly write down lyric ideas, but since i only write songs when i am inspired, i start playing the piano, the music and lyrics flow together at the same time. I really enjoy that kind of a process, it's like a release of all the bottled up feelings and much easier to put in a song than saying it to a person and sometimes admitting it to yourself.

Are there plans to make a music video for any of the songs you've recorded recently?

Absolutely and very soon. I just heard the new production and remixes for my first single. We are preparing the video treatment now based on a concept that is nothing like you've ever seen before. It's just a matter of getting the right team together – great writers, stylists and a visionary director. This video will have a very important message behind it, which i do not want to disclose yet. I want it to be a big surprise.

Any plans for touring and supporting your music in the future?

Touring will be a very big part of my musical life. I love being on stage and having direct contact with the audience. It's one of the most exciting things I am looking forward to. We don't have any exact dates yet, but it will happen for sure. In the mean time i am getting lots of ideas for costumes, presentation, stage design, etc. When i go on stage, as with everything else it has to be very special.

Another Ke$ha Song Makes Its Debut on YouTube

A few weeks ago We R Who We R hit the ke$ha youtube channel and now "Sleazy" has been uploaded in promotion for her new album Cannibal. We here personally prefer We R Who We R but Ke$ha is our weakness, we just can't deny her.

ATL Part 1 013

http://www.arockettothemoon.net/

Last time A Rocket To The Moon touched Maryland soil they sat upon their guitar cases on a hot summer day, playing for 20 lucky kids who signed up at the Fueled By Ramen table first. This time Nick, Justin, Eric and Andrew were welcomed by a packed house, filled to the brim with screaming fans. No longer playing acoustic on Warped Tour, ARTTM played full band and played full of energy for their 11 song set. Playing mostly off of their latest album On Your Side the band gained new fans and pleased ones who have been long-term fans. You can learn more about A Rocket To The Moon on their website or watch our interview with Nick and Justin at www.youtube.com/doubleccomedy.

All Time Low Announces New Album Title and Plays Journey on The Small Package Tour

Last night kicked off The Small Package Tour in Philly where the band played a full set of 17 songs. The band is reportedly taking requests from the crowd on this tour and is keeping it laid back on the completely sold out small club show. We're fortunate enough to be attending the sold-out-in-one-minute-hometown-show where the night is sure to be madness. If you're waiting for The Small Package Tour to hit your city or if for some reason you can't go, watch the videos above and stay tuned to Dad's Car Radio for updates after the hometown show.

In other news. All Time Low's first album under Interscope records is said to be titled Dirty Work. The album will be released early 2011 and new songs from the album are bound to show up over the course of the tour.
