Virgin Festival 2007

Copy_of_freakloungesign_a The 2007 edition of the Virgin Festival was announced last week. It’s 2 days this year August 4th and 5th back at Pimlico Racetrack – an easy stroll for Dad!

So far they have announced only three acts:   The Police – The Smashing Pumpkins and The Beastie Boys. So we are off to a great start.

But this is 2 Full Days of Music. Last year there were 15 bands plus DJs in the Dance tent – so 2 days will mean perhaps as many as 30 acts. The ticket prices, on sale dates and additional line-up will be announced "in a few weeks"

But Dad has the Inside Scoop Now!

OK, so I am making educated guesses and in some cases out and out wishes.  Let’s see how well I do. We’ll review my picks when the real list comes out. I didn’t do an NCAA bracket pool this year – so this will be my own personal “Final Four”

1. The Arcade Fire – A perfect addition. One of the hottest bands out there, they are on tour Through the summer – The date is open on Pollstar and I have my fingers crossed.

2. Jesus and Mary Chain – They are playing various Festivals this summer. They have recently re-united and according to the promoter Seth Hurwitz of I.M.P. This year’s Virgin Festival will "Give the kids a chance to see bands they never had a chance to see".

3. Which brings us to Sonic Youth.  They are lined up for several Festivals worldwide including Coachella and will still be on tour – In LA on July 20th they are doing a special performance of their finest work Daydream Nation Come on feel the noise art rock…

4. The White Stripes –  Whitestriopes Jack White’s side project "The Raconteurs" played last year and the Stripes have a new CD coming out soon and they have numerous Festivals already on their schedule including Bonnaroo.

5. Kaiser Chiefs – Just a hunch…

6. Interpol – Playing the Toronto version of V-Fest. Let’s also add Fountains of Wayne to this line – I have heard from VERY RELIABLE sources that both of these bands are in, all the others are my own guesses, honest!

7. Bjork is also playing in Toronto – that we be fun. We get so few Icelandic Princesses in Baltimore in August.Bjork

8. LCD Sound-system – This is an interesting group Electronica that Rocks.  "Daft Punk is Playing at My House"  was too cool and the new one "North American Scum" is funny too. They are NOT British – "We’re from North America!" However, they are playing several British Festivals.

9. Nine Inch Nails – Why the hell not?

10. Gogol Bordello – Start Wearing Purple! They are on the bill at Reading, Leeds and Coachella – why not V-Fest?

11. Arctic Monkeys – Bigger than the Beatles? Not Yet, they need to play Pimlico first!

12. Kings of Leon – These rocking brothers have a new release and are looking to break big.

13. Lily Allen – on the bill at V-Fest in LDN.  How about in BMD?

14. The Proclaimers – Hmmm, on the V-Fest bill in UK – Many kids never saw them. Could be a nice early in the day act.

15. The Kooks would fit right tin…

16. Happy Mondays – on the bill at V-Fest UK would be GREAT to see them here, bit of a long shot.  Rent or Buy the DVD 24 Hour Party People. 24 Hour Party People

17. Thievery Corporation – a fave from last year – Bring them back!

18. Wilco – The new CD Sky Blue Sky  is brilliant  – not out officially until May 15, Bonnaroo is only US date so far …

19. Patti Smith – Hey I’m one of those kids who never got to see her.

20. Beck – Playing V-Fest in Australia in April – No US dates or other festivals announced.  A long shot but a wish.

21. Modest Mouse – Skipping this area on the current tour….

22. Iggy Pop and The Stooges – Yet another big reunion band that all us kids never got to see. I did see Iggy at an HFS-Tival, but it wasn’t The Stooges. Still rocked.Iggy_pop_credding2005

23. Foo Fighters – Dave’s a DC guy and they ARE on the bill for V-Fest UK…

24. Damien Rice – On the mellower side, but selling a lot of tickets in mid sized halls and playing the UK Festivals.

25. Rage Against the Machine – Another Reunion act that would be a strong addition.

26. Amy Winehouse – All sorts of Buzz building around her, seems like a likely fit.

27. Echo and the Bunnymen – I just like saying the name…

28. Muse – another big buzz band. They are HUGE in UK Playing 2 nights at Wembley Stadium in June…

29. The Hold Steady – From the Ottobar to the Festival a HUGE leap they can do it!

30. Clay Aiken – Just Kidding – He’s already booked for the Greek Theater in LA that  weekend…

That’s Enough – Who’s on your list – add a comment!
